Mr. Eugene Joseph Smith, age 81 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2018 in the TBRHSC with family by his side.

A Class ‘A’ Mechanic by trade, “Smitty” worked a number of years for SJ Hill & Sons before starting up T&S Service which later became T&S Sports Ltd. as a part owner with Bill Tom. In the later years he was the sole owner and shut the doors after 30 years in business. Gene taught at Confederation College in the Small Engines, Automotive, Air Brake and Women in Trades courses. He then went on the road driving transport across Canada and the USA, later working for Northwestern Transport Training as an instructor teaching cab and classroom until he was 78 years old.

Gene loved his float planes and had many trips fishing and camping all over Northwestern Ontario. He was a huge help to Susan at horse shows and occasionally was seen at the reins in a driving class. He also worked for 40+ years with his wife breeding beautiful German Shepherd Dogs under the Mistique Kennel name. Gene was a life member of the CKC and TBK&TC and a past President of the Mechanics Union.

Gene and Charlotte enjoyed going to dances with their many friends, going on cruises and travelling the world including Italy, Greece, Alaska, Panama, Hawaii, and the Caribbean, as well as numerous road trips coast to coast North America.

Gene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Charlotte, his wife of 64 years, and his daughter Susan (Clint Venn). He was predeceased by parents Henry and Eva.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Randy Boyd. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service time.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Gene may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
