With our heavy hearts, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our family’s monarch - a loving mother, babcia, and pra babcia; Eugenia Kwaka (nee Filip), age 95 years young. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, September 14th, 2021.

Eugenia was born on January 1st, 1926 in Borek Stary, Poland, to proud parents Aniela and Michal. She was the youngest of nine children. She joined her oldest brother, Jan Filip, in Fort William and then met and later married the love of her life John in 1963. In 1964, they welcomed their only child Elizabeth whom was their pride and joy.

Eugenia instilled her best qualities on her family while being a devoted wife, mother, and babcia. She was a strong woman, overcoming many challenges throughout her life, always smiling, never complaining, and making the best of the situation. Eugenia was a devoted Catholic; long-time member of St. Casimir’s Church and belonged to the rosary group. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Polish Legion Branch #149 Ladies Auxiliary. Her passions also included planting flowers, gardening, cooking, shopping, and socializing with family and friends.

Becoming a babcia was the greatest moment in Eugenia’s life with the arrival of her first grandchild, Amanda. After the arrival of her triplet grandchildren, she devoted her time and love in helping her daughter everyday for the first year of their lives. As her grandchildren grew, she continued her involvement in their lives by attending every sporting event, family vacation, and graduation. This support continued as the family grew with the addition of spouses and great-grandchildren. She cherished all the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling her strong beliefs in loving and supporting each other no matter what.

Eugenia will be greatly missed and survived by her daughter Elizabeth Czaczkowski; grandchildren Amanda Czaczkowski-Mauro (Kristopher), Eric Czaczkowski (Kaitlyn), Jonathan Czaczkowski (Taylor Dewal), and Monique Topetto (Michael); her precious great-grandchildren Mila and Zachary Mauro, Eli Czaczkowski, and Arya Topetto; and extended family Jadwiga Czaczkowski, Jarek, Alina, Patrick and Shannon Golen. She will be missed by many other relatives in Thunder Bay, other parts of Canada, and Poland. Eugenia was predeceased by her husband John and her brother Jan Filip; her parents and seven other siblings in Poland; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stephan and Bronis Kwaka; and her son-in-law Jerzy Czaczkowski and his father Mieczyslaw Czaczkowski.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 20th, 2021, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., at St. Casimir’s Church, 613 McKenzie Street, celebrated by Rev. Piotr Dudek. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 19th, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street South, where the Prayer Service will begin at 4:30 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial donations to the T.B.R.H.S.
