The family of Mrs. Evelyn Aune Puumala (Peuramaki), aged 78 years, are saddened to announce that she passed away peacefully at Roseview Manor on March 16, 2022.
Evelyn was born on February 24, 1944 to Hilda and Joseph Peuramaki and grew up as the youngest child in a very large Kaministiquia family before moving to Port Arthur/Thunder Bay, where she spent her entire adult life. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with family, tending to her gardens, camping, and in her later years spending time at a new family camp at Cummings Lake. She was a loving and supportive spouse, mother and grandmother, who made it possible for her family members to achieve success academically, in our careers, and in extracurricular activities, especially cross-country skiing and her granddaughters’ dance and figure skating.
Evelyn is survived by Martti, her husband of 56 years, son Mark, daughter-in-law Moira, granddaughters Emily and Lauren, son Jamie, daughter-in-law Bonnie, sisters Aila Laatu, Shirley Laatu, Janet Lehto and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Finland.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Vilppo, Veikko, Kalervo and Unto, and sisters Linnea, Miriam, Elna, Nona, Lyyli, Helmi and Eila.
We would like to thank the staff at Roseview Manor who cared for Evelyn and ensured that she did not suffer in her final days.
A graveside service and celebration of life gathering for family and friends will be organized for a later date in the spring or summer.
