Florence (Frankie) Dorothy Johnston (nee Flank) passed away peacefully on Feb 8 2015 with family by her side. Frankie was born on September 25 1925 in Fort William and grew up in Pearson.

Frankie lived her life with energy, enthusiasm and compassion, when she had the opportunity to help her country with the war efforts she took it. She served as a Wren with the Naval Forces in Halifax from 1943 to 1946. It was during this time that she met her late husband Robert Johnston, they wed in 1947 and moved to Marathon, Ontario. It was here where they raised their two children, Robert and Douglas.

Frankie was an avid curler and later in life she added golfing to her weekly routine. She could catch the biggest fish using a piece of gum and a hook much to the dismay of her boys. She was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Moose Lodge. She worked at various jobs including Robinsons department store and the pool, but her favourite was working as a florist, she delighted in making floral arrangements even though her garden was filled with bright and beautiful plastic flowers. Knitting, could she knit, her winter sweaters were enjoyed by many, but the touques, she made hundreds and donated them to schools and soup kitchens, she wanted everyone to be warm.

She loved life and lived it to the fullest, always taking the high road and appreciating and making the most of what she had. Her family was everything to her, she made many visits to the Lakehead to see her siblings. Frankie adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She was the sparkle in many lives, including the staff at Lakehead Manor, where Frankie spent the last years of her life. Even when her illness took away her ability to speak, she continued to connect with her loved ones.

Frankie will be sadly missed by her sons Bob Johnston (Brenda) and Douglas Johnston (Elizabeth), her 6 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, sisters, Doreen Cork, Roberta (Pat) Edwards, sister in laws, Jeanne and Melba Flank, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, parents John & Thora Flank, sisters Marie Fulton, Roselle Flank, Lily Flank, Margaret Kearney, Rose Bass and Ollie Thomas and brothers Ed, Eugene, John and Robert Flank as well as brother and sister in laws.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date
