August 27, 1955 – June 11, 2025
Mrs. Florence Goodchild, age 69 years, passed away suddenly in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 with family by her side.
Florence was born in Kowkash, Ontario on August 27, 1955 to Mary Julia (née McCready) and Tony Towedo Sr. She worked as a Cook for the Ministry and was a foster parent, helping to change the lives of many children over the years. Florence loved being outdoors, fishing, bush rides, camping and especially going blueberry picking. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble and Bingo, trying her luck gambling at casinos as well as cooking and baking, being the best at both. Above all else, time spent with her family brought Florence the greatest joy and she always looked forward to visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was a loving, kind woman with a big heart and will be missed. The memories we made with Florence will stay with us forever.
Florence will be forever missed by her beloved husband of 47 years, Henry “Alfie” Goodchild; her son Jeff (Rhonda) Goodchild and foster daughter Savannah Frost; grandchildren Kalem (Kianna), J.J, Keeleigh, River and great-granddaughter Brynlee; siblings Roger Towedo Sr. (Dorothy) of Aroland, Rolland Towedo Sr. of Thunder Bay, Tony Towedo Jr. (Betsy) of Thunder Bay, Lillian Atlookan (John) of Aroland, Sally Towedo (Sam) of Aroland, Russell Towedo of Geraldton, Laurie Towedo of Aroland, and Rosella Friesen (Vern) of Fort McMurray, Alberta. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law Abel Celerio and Brian Cockroft, sister-in-law Theresa Wesley as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, M. Julia and Tony Sr. Towedo; her sisters Edna Towedo and Bernadette Cockroft; and her grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles.
