Florence Lockwood

Florence Jean Lockwood (nee Hogarth) passed away on Sunday October 8th in the wonderful care of the staff of the Hospice in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Jean was predeceased by her husband John, her children Johnny and Jan, her parents Florrie and Harry Hogarth, her brother Bill and nephew Willy. Her memory lives on with her nieces Mary Hogarth (Fritz Kienle) and great nephew Max, and Christine Hogarth (Paul Demers), her daughter-in-law Susan Lockwood, son-in-law Harley Hughes, sister-in-law Marlene Hogarth and her many relatives and friends.

Jean was born and raised in Port Arthur and other than a brief period in Kingston and Montreal, while John took his degree and began his working life, lived within a few blocks of the corner of High St. and the Red River Road. She enjoyed a life time of summers at camp and travel, time with friends on the golf course and competing at Bridge. Jean experienced her almost 94 years with gusto; celebrating joys, confronting adversities and actively recovering from losses. Her ardent spirit and indomitable drive were an asset in her early working years and later when she focused her acute mind on supporting the activities of the Thunder Bay Food Bank, Via Vitae, St. John’s Anglican Church and in her later years St. Joseph’s Care Group.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Anglican Church on Pearl Street with The Rev’d Dr. George Porter and The Rev’d David Knudson presiding. A reception will follow in the Provincial Room of the Prince Arthur Hotel. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
