It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Mrs. Florenza Clemenza, age 87 years, passed away peacefully on Monday February 2, 2015 in Bethammi Nursing Home with her husband by her side.
Florenza was born in Grimaldi, Cozenza, Italy on April 2, 1927.
She was one of 13 children born to Maria and Michele Montello. In 1949 she met Antonio who would later become her husband. Together they started their family. In 1963 Florenza, Antonio and their two children Eugene and Lina, immigrated to Port Arthur, Ontario. Soon to follow was their third child, John. Their family became long time residents of Tupper Street.
Having come from a large family, she made sure hers was first priority. She was a hard worker at Bennett’s Bakery and Woods Tent Factory.
Most of all she was a dedicated homemaker and provider for her family, taking her grandkids in as her own children. Florenza enjoyed cooking and feeding anyone that came walking through her front door. She always looked forward to afternoon coffee with her friends, especially Commari Immacolata. If Florenza wasn't in her kitchen she could be found in her forever growing garden or climbing mountains for mushrooms and searching for patches of blueberries to pick at the farm. All with a big smile on her face.
Florenza is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Antonio; children Lina Filice (Tony), Eugene (Teresa) and John; siblings Guerino Montello (Emma) and Giustina Lonero (Ettore); grandchildren Bud Filice (Heather), Jim Filice, Frank Filice (Michelle), Lisa Wrigley (Shawn), Michele Harman (Earl) and Anthony Clemenza; great grandchildren Travis, Cassidy, Kalie, Christina, Nicholas, Elissa, Brianna, Gabriel, Serena and Lilly.
Florenza was predeceased by her parents Maria Giusepppa and Michele Montello; parents in-law Eugenio and Teresa Clemenza; grandson David Filice; brothers Francesco, Giuseppe, Emilio, Pasqualino and sisters Elvira, Luigina, Esterina, Maria, Geluzza and Gilda.
Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Florenza Clemenza will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma at 9:30am to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:00am celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, with Vigil Prayers offered at 7:00pm in the Chapel.
