Francesca Filice

Francesca (Franca) Filice, born August 13, 1947, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 10, 2021, with family by her side.

In 1968, Franca travelled from Aiello Calabro, Cosenza, Italy to Port Arthur to begin a new life in Canada with her husband Donato. Although mom adapted to her new country, she maintained many Italian traditions including preparing big feasts for her family.

Mom was an avid gardener; another tradition that she cherished. Every year it seemed, she expanded her garden so that she could grow more vegetables for friends and family. Mom was also a talented seamstress. Over the years, she designed several outfits with such precision that many were left in awe of her talent.

Mom was very opinionated; she had a strong sense of responsibility and instilled that in her children and granddaughter.

Mom's greatest pleasure in the last few years was caring for her granddaughter Kara who she referred to as "Kara Mia." It has often been said Kara's gift for the gab and opinionated nature, came from spending her formative years with Nonna. Our greatest sadness is knowing your time with Kara was cut short.

Although mom's health declined in the last two years, she showed tremendous strength and courage in facing every obstacle. We are thankful for the time we had with you mom. Franca will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity to friends and family. She was a devoted grandmother, mother, sister, and wife.

We would like to thank the medical and nursing staff of 2C at TBRHSC who provided mom with tremendous care in her final days.

Franca is survived by her children Settimio, Rita, and Vilma (Lee) and granddaughter Kara, her sister Lina (Italy), In-laws Matilda, Ida and Linda from Toronto, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents Bruno Perri and Carmela Caputo, her sister Maria Perri, brother Gino Perri, and husband Donato. It gives us comfort knowing mom has reunited with dad again.

Franca was private and unassuming. To honour her wishes, a private ceremony for immediate family will take place. A mass in memory of Franca will be scheduled at a later date. Online condolences can be made at www.sargentandson.com

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Northern Cardiac Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
