Mrs. Franciszka Gacek age 89 years, passed away peacefully in Pioneer Ridge on April 5, 2017 to be with her husband Jan.
Frania, as close friends called her, was born in Poland May 3, 1927. She met the love of her life, Jan, and was married November 27, 1947. She had two sons Michael and Stephen. Later in 1959 her husband’s father Michael Gacek Sr. arranged a reunion of his wife Mary, Jan and Franciszka and their sons to join him in Canada to live.
Franciszka worked hard at many jobs. She either walked or bused to and from work. Not speaking English, most work was labour intense. She loved to cook and garden, enjoyed feeding neighbours, friends and most of all her sons. She always would say “eat, eat, there is lots to eat.” and “look you are too skinny.” She loved her vacations with her husband Jan in Florida and Hawaii, Cuba and short get a way’s to Duluth and Minneapolis.
Franciszka is survived by son Michael (Wendy), grandchildren Timothy, Christopher, Jeffery and Michelle, great grandchildren Kadyn, Jaymie and Jessica. Predeceased by her parents in the old country, husband, Jan, brother, Michael, niece, Roshana and son, Stephen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m, at St. Casimir's Church celebrated by Rev. Ireneusz Stadler. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Vigil Prayers will be held at the Blake Funeral Chapel Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorials to the Ontario Lung Association or CNIB would be appreciated.
