It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, Frank Rosec.

Frank was born on Nov. 27, 1934 and was taken from us on April 20, 2011, at the age of 76 years after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, having his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

In 1957 Frank fled from Yugoslavia to Austria with his future bride Silvia Pirnik seeking refugee status. Eight months later on Jan. 18, 1958, Frank and Silvia were married and later that year they immigrated into Canada after finally receiving permission from the Canadian Consulate.

Frank and Silvia settled in Thunder Bay where Frank took a job with Fred Barbini Masonary and he retired in December 1984. After retirement Frank had more time to pursue his favourite hobbies – gardening, hunting and fishing.

Frank enjoyed watching his vegetable garden flourish with its many tomatoes, lettuce and cucumbers which were dispersed amongst many of his neighbors, family and friends.

Throughout the years Frank always had his family close to his heart. Frank’s greatest passion will always be his children and grandchildren.

In his later years Frank and Lea had the opportunity to travel to B.C. visiting both family and friends. They made several short gambling trips to the U.S. and Winnipeg. Their time together was too short, but wonderful.

Frank will be lovingly remembered by daughter Doreen (Jim, Bradley, and Mitchell), son Norman (Debbie, Travis and Chad), and son David (Susan, Julia and Alex), dearly treasured friend and companion Lea Presenger and her family. Also survived by former wife Silvia.

He will be sadly missed by all his closest friends. Frank had so many close and wonderful friends that it would be impossible to mention them all, but his family is truly grateful for all their support over the past few months. Frank was predeceased by his father Raphael, mother Lucija, brothers Pepe and Raphael, and his longtime companion Betty Mozell.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church.  As per Dad’s wishes, cremation will follow.  A Private family interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, April 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to St. Joseph’s Foundation, designated to the Hospice Unit.

Online Condolences may be offered at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca.
