Mr. Frank Ruberto, age 79 years passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, in St. Joseph’s Care Group on Friday, April 14, 2017.
Frank was born in Sambiase, Catanzaro, Italy on August 2, 1937, the son of Vincenzo and Maria Ruberto. In 1952, he along with his father and brother John immigrated to Canada where, upon arrival, he began working in what would be his lifelong profession of barbering. He worked for 10 years before opening a shop with his brother-in-law, Frank & Joe’s Barber Shop on Cumberland Street and finally ventured out on his own establishing Frank’s Barber Shop on Red River Road in 1976. He truly loved his work and the time spent sharing conversations with his many clients over the years.
When he was not behind the barber chair you could always find him conversing with acquaintances over coffee at Robins or McDonald's.
He married the love of his life, Anna Mauro on July 29, 1961 and together they raised 4 children. This year would have seen them celebrate 56 years of marriage.
Frank enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing pool, going for walks and in later years traveling south in the winter months. A very sociable person, he took great pleasure in spending time with friends and family, especially with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His passions included soccer and gardening, both hobbies that he enjoyed until a very late age. When he wasn't on the field showing off his moves you would find him in his greenhouse fussing over his tomatoes which he took great pride in showcasing, especially when his grandkids came over.
Frank will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Anna, children Rosemarie (Paul) Campbell, Vince (Gina), Tony (Susan) and Frank (Michele), grandchildren: Robert (Amanda), Brittany, Kristi, Julia, Sophia, Nathan, Georgia, Sydney, Chloe; great granddaughter Ellie Rose, brothers Vince (Francesca), Sam (Nina), and John who was not only his younger brother but his best friend. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Giovanna (Vincenzo) Ruberto, Francesca (Frank) Ruberto, Carmella DeFazio and Rose (Frank) Stella.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini.
Visitation for friends will be held on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel where the Vigil Service will begin at 7 p.m. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated.
