Frederick Smith
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Frederick James (JIM) Smith, age 76, on Thursday, May 24th, 2018 at Roseview Manor (formerly of Fireweed Court and Dublin Avenue) with his family by his side, after many years of battling the rare disease of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (Parkinsons) and Dementia as well as multiple other illnesses over the years.

Jim was born September 27, 1941 in Toronto Ontario. After moving to Thunder Bay, Jim met his love Colleen and they married in 1969. Jim worked for McDonald’s restaurants as the accountant for approximately 20 years before retiring and assuming the position of President of Twin City Holdings.

In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He loved spending time on the golf course and also enjoyed curling. He enjoyed many trips to the big fights and sporting events while working with McDonald’s. In his later years he enjoyed travelling to the Casinos and playing bingo with his wife Colleen. Together they travelled to various locations over the years such as Las Vegas, Greece and the Caribbean.

Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Derek Smith, Ashlee Smith, James Smith (Cynthia) and his grandchildren Jordan and Travis Smith as well as his sister Loralyn Ladelle (Don), and his brothers Gerry Smith and Harvey Smith. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Jim is predeceased by his wife Colleen, his mother Laura, his father Harvey and his sister Carolyn.

A special thank you to those who were instrumental in his care during these difficult times at Roseview Manor.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Ed Long. A reception will be held at Harbourview after the service. Cremation will follow the funeral with a Service of Committal to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 31st at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening, May 29th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Harbourview.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Roseview Manor Resident Council (Roseview Manor, 99 Shuniah Street, Thunder Bay Ontario, P7A 2Z2) would be appreciated.
