I, Nicholas Balina, with sad but yet joyful heart in the Resurrection, announce the death of my brother Fred Balina on April 28th, 2016.

Fred with his unique sense of humour, would tell people that he was born within the walls of the Old Fort William for he was born at 528 McTavish Street which would have been within the actual walls of the original fort. Fred worked in the areas of banking and education prior to retirement from FWCI as a librarian. He enjoyed being involved in many charitable endeavours for this philosophy was that of our mother of eternal memory: “If you can do it, do it! If you cannot do it, fall on your knees until you ca do it! And, if you really cannot do it, don’t get off your knees!”

Fred was predeceased by our parents Anna (Annie) Kaczor/Kaszor/Kachur and Peter Jozef Garaj-Balina.

Left to feel his loss are many cousins, first of whom is Freda Kaszor-Brown whom we called the “Archangel of Mercy”, and our sister Carol and brother-in-law Bob Eady, and dear cherished friend Gayle Carlson.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Church on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Terry Sawchuk and concelebrated by Rev. Richard Kowalchuk. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Prayers will be recited on Monday evening, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre where visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, at Fred’s request, donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church “Renovation Fund” or to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church “Iconography Fund”.

With the holy ones,
O Lord, grant rest.
Vichnaya Pam’yat’
