Gabriel

Mr. Gabriel (Mike) Aspropotamitis aka Mike White passed away peacefully at TBRHSC surrounded by his family on October 31, 2017 at the age of 87. Born in Ano Makrinou Greece, he crossed the ocean to Canada in 1959 to marry Koula Papavramopoulos where together they raised 3 children residing on Brodie Street. He started his profession as a tailor in Patras Greece and continued his career as the owner of Nick’s Tailor Shop on Simpson Street. He was a member of Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church and proud of his culture. Always a gentleman to all who knew him. He moved to Paterson Apartments after Koula’s death in 2002 and enjoyed his daily walks to Victoriaville, meeting his sister Helen and his friends for coffee. He enjoyed his many return trips to Greece and the special trips with his sons to Hong Kong, France, California, Mexico and Toronto to name a few. One of his highlights was driving to New York with the Durston family in the mid 70’s. His eyes lit up with the mention of his children and grandchildren and when the Greek music played he was up on his feet dancing, even at 87.

He is survived by his daughter Jennie (Lei) Hartviksen of Thunder Bay, granddaughter Marika (Jay) Scull of Toronto and grandson Michael Hartviksen of Thunder Bay, son Jim Aspros (Val) and grandson Maxime Aspros of California and son Nick (Lisa) Aspros of Toronto. Also survived by his best friend and sister Helen (Gus) Chimbakis as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Koula, brothers John and Tom and his parents Dimitri and Afrodite Aspropotamitis

To celebrate the life of Gabriel, we will gather at Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue, for visitation from 2 – 5 pm on Sunday November 5, 2017 with prayer service at 3 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church, 651 Beverly Street, at 11 am on Monday November 6, 2017. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated

A special thank you to the staff at TBRHSC especially 3A that made our father’s passing a beautiful goodbye, The staff at Pioneer Ridge which was home for a short time and all of our friends and family that have been there for Gabriel throughout his later years.
