It is with great shock and sadness that we share the news of Gary’s sudden and untimely passing. He went very peacefully in his sleep, having spent his final days on the Harley. We are grateful to the many friends and family who have offered kind words and support.

Gary was born and raised in Orillia, Ontario. The eldest of four boys, he spent his early years on the water with his dad and brothers, and on the road with whoever had the fast car. Work took him to Ottawa where he ran a crusher for a few years before buying his first truck and heading north. He spent the last 35 years in Thunder Bay building his business, buying up toys (not playing enough), and sharing a beer with friends and family in the Shop.

Gary leaves behind his beloved partner Bobbie, mother Nancy, and daughter Shawna (mother Dianne). He was predeceased by his father Ray and will be greatly missed by brothers Ken (Teresa), Tom (Astrid) & Jim (Wendy), as well as his many nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve are Jim Quinn & family, his friends from Las Olas, and a great, great many friends in Thunder Bay and across Ontario.

A memorial service for Gary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Harbourview Funeral Centre. A casual, drop-in “come as you are” reception will follow at the Shop, from 3pm, where friends are invited to share stories and celebrate a life well lived.

Friends are also invited to join his mother Nancy and the Steele family for a drop-in celebration of life 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Orillia, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to raise a glass or two (Gary would recommend a Caesar and a beer) in his honour. Donations may be made to Easter Seals at www.easterseals.org or Heart & Stroke at www.heartandstroke.ca.
