George Nicholas Racic

It is with deepest sadness, that the family of George Nicholas Racic announces his passing on June 27, 2018, at the age of 91. Born January 30, 1927 in Lovinac, Croatia, George immigrated to Canada in 1936 as a 9-year-old. He embraced Canada and built a great life for himself and his family.

As an ironworker, he participated in the building of numerous paper mills and mines across Canada, a skyscraper in New York City and the Lod airport in Tel Aviv. Later in his career he became an instructor at Confederation College, teaching the next generation of welders, fitters and steelworkers.

George was a 67-year member of the Croatian Home Society, serving as President for several years. He continued supporting his heritage at the Croatian Hall by volunteering on numerous fronts until he became ill. Whether it was roasting a lamb, building a deck or showing you the right way, George was always willing to lend a hand.

He will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Anna (nee Filipovic), his children: Nick (Mary-Jane), Rick (Catherine), Susan (Pascoe), Marlene, Michael (Iphigenia) as well as numerous grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Catherine & Rose Ann (Marty). George was predeceased by his parents Nick and Marija Racic (nee Prpic).

Thanks to all of you who lent a hand and kept George in your thoughts these last months of his decline. He and our family truly appreciate the love and help. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 3rd at 2:30 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.

Visitation for friends will be for 1 hour prior to the service. The interment will take place at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the T.B.R.H.S. Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
