January 16, 1949 – March 22, 2024

It is with broken hearts that the family of Gerald Allen Gillson announce his passing on March 22, 2024 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

Lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Sylvia of 52 years, beloved son Gregory, adored grandson Rylan and his mother Trish of Sault Ste. Marie. Gerry will be remembered for his infectious laugh, quick wit, and sense of humour.

Gerry was employed at A & P Grocery Store while attending High School to save to buy his first car. Later he was employed by Hydro One commencing on June 15, 1970 with an apprenticeship in the lines department. As an apprentice, he worked and lived in Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Ear Falls and then returned to Thunder Bay as a Journeyman and we bought our home in Current River in 1972 and have thoroughly enjoyed our neighbourhood. Gerry retired from Hydro One on May 1, 2000. Gerry enjoyed camp life at Silver Harbour with his family and then our family at Loon Lake and then later at Sturgeon Lake.

Lovingly remembered by his sister Evelyn and brother Tom (Wanda), sisters-in-law Marlene, Cathy, and brother-in-law Eddy and sister-in-law Anne and all their families and also long-time friends, Mike and Cindy Sinnott and Jack and Judy Cain and godson Casey Cain. Predeceased by son Jeffrey, parents Gerald and Mae Gillson and father and mother-in-law Reino and Martha Kauppi, brothers-in-law Louie and Kenny Kauppi, Marvin Valliere and Zane Allam and nephew Kevin Valliere.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff on 1N Daffodil Unit at Hogarth Riverview Manor for the support and care of Gerry during the past year. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
