Gerda Wilhelmine Seggewiss

Mrs. Gerda Wilhelmine Seggewiss age 85 years, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away with family by her side at Hogarth Riverview Manor in Thunder Bay ON. on February 21, 2018.

Born in Wertherbruch Germany on January 27, 1933, Gerda emigrated to Canada in 1958 where she raised a family of 6 between moves starting in Pearson Township, Fort William and Slate River, where she retired from dairy farming in 1987. Predeceased by her life partner Werner (2008), Gerda will be lovingly remembered by her sister Ulla (Willi) Schwiening, Wilhelm (Anneliese) Holsteg and sister in law Louise Holsteg; son George (Paula) Seggewiss of Woodstock ON, son Ulrich (Paula) Seggewiss of Pinawa Man., son Heiner (Alana) Seggewiss of Thunder Bay ON, daughter Annette (James) Donaldson of Newmarket; son Martin (Kim) Seggewiss of Calgary; son Robert Seggewiss of Portland Oregon. 

Proud Oma of Krista (Gavin), Graham (Jess) , Erich (Haley), Barrett, Michael (Robin), Nathan (Rachel), Mark (Alexandrea), Kenny, Mia (Conner), Megan, Madelin, Nadia, Annelise, Kyra, Cade and great Oma to Aubrey, Elliot, Bennett, Henry, Adelade, Finn, Haydn and Harrison. Gerda also has many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephew in Germany. Gerda is predeceased by her parents Wilhelm and Julie Holsteg, and brother Hans Jurgen Holsteg.

Gerda was an active volunteer in her community where many, young and old experienced her generousity. She was endeared to many who were grateful for her kind and compassionate ways. Gerda’s true passion was her love of nature from the smallest creature to the tallest tree. 

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caregivers and staff at Hogarth Riverview Manor. 

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 2055 Rosslyn Rd. with Rev. Jerin Louis officiating. Donations can be made to Thunder Bay Alzheimer Society or The Trans Canada Trail. Arrangements are entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N.Court St. Thunder Bay Ontario.
