Gilbert Tellef Hansen

Mr. Gilbert Tellef Hansen, age 87 years, passed away peacefully with loving family at his side in St. Joseph’s Care Group on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

Gilbert was born in Nolalu, Ontario on June 7, 1934, the son of Tellef and Irja Hansen. It was while living in Nolalu that he met the love of his life Helen Lane whom he married on August 25, 1956 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage in August of this year.

Together they raised 4 children and spent the last 52 years living in the same house in Thunder Bay. An auto mechanic by trade, he began his career at Wilson Motors, before moving to Gibson Motors and finally Intercity Ford from where he retired in 1999. Gilbert was a man who was always doing something, whether it was curling, working on different projects around the camp or at home, going to the races or working on cars himself. He and Helen enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the family camp on Round Lake. His greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he was happiest during time spent with them.

Gilbert will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Helen, children: Greg (Loreen), Jim (Sheila), Jeff (Kerry) and Cindy (John); Grandchildren: Andy (Ashley), Eric (Riley), Stephanie (Aaron), Ashley (Jeff), Tyler, John (Julie), Joel, Justin (Dallas), Krista (Shaun), Katie (Ray), Erin (Brett) and Tara; Great Grandchildren: Makinley, Brody, Adam, Lochlan, Nathan, Alayna, Makyla, Kailee, Sawyer, Carly and Evalyn. Brother Leslie (Margie), sisters Merle and Edith (Wayne), sister-in-law June as well as by numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his great grand-daughter Taylor Dawn, his parents, sister Anna and brother Mark, in-laws: John and Sadie Lane, Vern and Eleanor Lane, Earl and Mary Lane, Kay Lane, Hazel and Fred Sutton, Peggy and Bob Wark, Harold Sitch, Ilmar Oksanen, Jim Graham.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the amazing nurses on 2C at TBRHSC along with Dr. Taha and Dr. Melton, plus the nurses on 4 North at St. Joe’s Care Group and his NP Kelsey York and Wesway.

A service to celebrate the life of Gilbert Hansen will be held on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 11:00am in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street. As per the Ontario COVID-19 regulations, those attending the service must provide proof of double vaccination, government issued photo I.D. and wear a mask. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
