It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Giovanni Armenti, beloved husband, caring father and Nonno on May 28, 2021. Giovanni passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family at his side.

Giovanni was born June 25, 1930 in Castelpetroso, Italy to Giuseppe and Lucia Armenti. He was one of ten children. He came to Canada in 1953 in search of a new and better life.

By proxy on October 8, 1956 he married the love of his life, Filomena Vacca. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. In 1957 upon Filomena’s arrival to Canada, together they settled in Molson/Lydiatt, then moved to Beausejour, Manitoba. In 1958 they welcomed their first child, a daughter Josie followed by three more children, Dora, Tony and Maria.

Giovanni’s long time employment was working for CP Rail. He was a hard-working man. His main focus in life was always to provide for his family. After 33 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1986; he fulfilled his retirement by travelling, fishing, bowling, wine, tomato sauce and sausage making. He truly enjoyed his time playing bocce and cards with his friends from St. Dominic’s Senior Club.

His cherished moments were time spent with his family. To Giovanni, his family was everything. He was a gentle quiet man, but don’t let that fool you, he was quite the teaser and very competitive when it came to playing cards, bocce and checkers.

When visiting, you were always greeted with a smile and offered a glass of homemade wine. While gathered around he would share his childhood stories, or hear him entertaining you playing his accordion.

Giovanni will be sadly missed and is survived by his wife Filomena, children Josie Laudone (Frank Bisignano), Dora (Len) Legarde, Tony (Charlene) Armenti, and Maria Dessureault. Also survived by brother Michele (Dora) Armenti, sisters-in-law Josie Vacca, Maria Vacca, brother-in-law Donato Varrasso, and other numerous relatives.
Giovanni will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Christopher, Michelle, Jenilee, Derek, Matthew, Adam, Curtis and his seven great grandchildren.

Giovanni is predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Lucia Armenti, father-in-law Pasquale Vacca, mother-in-law Carmela Giacci, brothers Berardino (Dominica) Armenti, and Mario Armenti, sisters Antonietta (Mario) Vacca, Ida (Ferdinando) Armenti, brothers-in-law Benito Vacca and Adolf Vacca, sister-in-law Italia Varrasso and numerous other relatives.

Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Palliative Care Team, Caroline, Christine and Aaron for the compassion, kindness and excellent care that you provided to our dad. Your dedication and support was greatly appreciated during this difficult time. There are no words to express our utmost gratitude.

Due to the current Covid-19 gathering restrictions, a private family service will be held on June 3, 2021, celebrated by Rev. Michael Mahoney of St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Giovanni’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
