It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giovanni Curci, age 83 years, on July 21, 2017 at the TBRHSC. He was born in Roccarainola, Naples, Italy on April 2, 1934. He is the third youngest of seven siblings.

Giovanni travelled to France and Switzerland for work in his early years venturing and exploring the world while most of his immediate family immigrated to Canada. In 1963, Giovanni immigrated to Canada and reunited with his mother and siblings. Since then he has been a life time resident of Thunder Bay. Giovanni worked for Canadian Car and Foundry (CanCar) for many years before having to leave due to medical reasons.

Giovanni enjoyed bowling and travelling with his late companion Mildred (Millie) Nelson. Family was important to him as he always looked forward towards and enjoyed the large family gatherings. He was happiest when he was with family for any occasion, enjoying a good plate of food and a glass of homemade wine. Giovanni was a quiet man and long-time resident on Frederica St. who enjoyed playing cards and going for a walk.

Giovanni will be greatly missed by his sisters: Lucia (Pasquale) D’Angelo; Raffaela Napolitano of Italy; brother Antonio (Josephine) Curci of King City, Ontario; sister in-laws: Antonietta and Speranza Curci, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents: Nicola and Concetta (nee Rozza) Curci; half-sister Nunziata (Giovanni) Natale; brothers: Angelo and Vincenzo Curci; brother in-law Giuseppe Napolitano; as well as other family members and his long-time companion Millie Nelson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 leaving Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, where a Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
