It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Giulio Michele Scocchia announces his passing on Tuesday, July 20th, 2022 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Giulio was born on January 7th, 1941 in Befaro, Castelli, province of Teramo Italy. In 1961, he immigrated to Canada in search of a better life, settling in Port Arthur, Ontario. Shortly after, he met his future wife Maria and they married on September 4th, 1965. They were blessed with four children and had many years of wonderful memories with family and close friends. Family and work were the cornerstones of his life. He was a hard and dedicated worker, who retired after 42 years of service with Manitoba Pool Elevators.
Giulio was a kind man with a gentle soul, who was loved and respected by everyone. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a loving Nonno, and a loyal friend. His first priority was his family, and his happiest moments were spent with his children and grandchildren. His strong values will continue to live on and be cherished in our hearts.
Giulio will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Maria, children Franco (Margaret), Gabriella (Len), Roberto and Susanna (Scott) and by his grandchildren Justin, Nicole (Ethan) and Sydni (Devin). Also survived by his sisters Giannina Mercuri and Dina (Silvio) Scocchia, brother Gino (Vittoria) Scocchia, brothers-in-law Franco (Nella) Vetere, Salvatore (Ida) Vetere, and John (Nancy) Vetere.
He was predeceased by his parents Francesco and Maria Grazia Scocchia, his brother and sister-in-law Guido and Diletta Scocchia, mother and father-in-law Assunta and Francesco Vetere, sister-in-law Teresa (Michele) Alulio and brother-in-law Antonio Mercuri.
The family of Giulio would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scali for his exceptional care over the years.
Funeral Services for Giulio will be held at St. Anthony’s Church, 123 Hilldale Road on Thursday, July 28, 2022 where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini at 1:00 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the church beginning at 12:00 p.m. A private Family Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
For those unable to attend in person, the mass will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Giulio’s memory would be greatly appreciated to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
