The family of Giuseppa Racco, age 96 years, sadly announces her passing on Monday, November 29th, 2021. She died peacefully at Pioneer Ridge.

Giuseppa was born March 18, 1925, daughter of Anna Figliomeni and Cosimo Bartolo in Siderno Marina-Reggio Calabria. She grew up in a large family with two brothers and four sisters. Giuseppa met the love of her life and married Ferdinando Domenico Racco in 1947, and had three sons, Filippo, Cosimo and Vincenzo. In 1952 her husband left Italy to come to Canada to make a better life for his family. Later, in 1963 Giuseppa and her three sons joined him in Thunder Bay, ON where they raised their family. Giuseppa focused on raising their children and enjoyed walks, gardening and travelling back to her hometown in Italy.

Giuseppa is survived by her son Filippo (Esterina), Cosimo (Elizabeth) and Vincenzo (Palmira), grandchildren, Domenico (Susan), Peter (Grace), Domenico (Rosa), Sabrina (Evan), Laura (Garrick), Stefano (Kara) and Christina (Cian); 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Giuseppa was predeceased by her husband, Ferdinando in 2011 after 62 years of marriage, her parents, parents in-law, and all of her brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Dr. Scali and all the staff on Plaza Four at Pioneer Ridge for their excellent care.

Services for Giuseppa will be held on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Church, 123 Hilldale Road, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

As directed by the Province of Ontario and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario, a record of attendance is required by everyone attending the service as well as wearing of masks or face coverings.

For those unable to attend in person, the funeral mass will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
