Giuseppe Coppola

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Coppola, age 92 on Thursday, June 1, 2017 in St. Joseph’s Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 29, 1925 in St. Agnello, Sorrento, Napoli, Italia. He was the last surviving child born to Rosa (Nee Milano) and Enrico Coppola. In 1948 at the age of 23, Giuseppe began his journey when he departed for Buenos Aires, Argentina. Three years later in 1951, he immigrated to Canada. He found employment with the RF Welch Company for 5 years, travelling the rail lines of North Western Ontario. On April 25, 1957 Giuseppe married the love of his life Anita Vercillo. By 1966 Anita and Giuseppe were the proud parents of 4 sons; Enrico, Claudio, Mario and Lucio.

While moonlighting in the evening as a bartender, Giuseppe gained full time employment with Sask Wheat Pool to provide for his newly expanded family but it was Anita who was the anchor in the home. The Coppola’s were very proud of their Italian Heritage especially Giuseppe who was a member of the Port Arthur Italian Cultural Centre since 1960 as well as St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church which led him to a membership of the Holy Name Society and the St. Anthony’s Seniors Club. After his retirement in 1990, Giuseppe was able to enjoy the most important aspect of his life to the fullest – his family.

Giuseppe will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife Anita, by his sons Enrico (Rhonda), Claudio, Mario (Allana) and Lucio (Nathalie), by his grandchildren Madison (Clay), Chamberlain (Marko), Kyle, Kaitlyn (Joey), Nicholas and Christopher.

A special thank you to Debbie Prete for your helpfulness, also a special thanks to Dr. Migay and the numerous Nurses on 4N at the Hospice Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital for your care and compassion during this difficult time, it will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 leaving the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church would be appreciated.
