Mr. Giuseppe (Joe) Mirabelli, age 91 years, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday August 14th, 2017 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Giuseppe was born in Lamezia Terme (Sambiase), Catanzaro, Italy on January 22nd, 1926. He left his homeland and arrived in Canada in December 1950. He was later joined by his loving wife Caterina in June of 1954. Giuseppe and Caterina were blessed with two sons Louis and Vincenzo.

Giuseppe worked with the City of Thunder Bay Public Works Department for more than 30 years until his retirement in January 1991. He enjoyed traveling back to his homeland of Italy and spending summers there with family and friends. The things in his life that made him happiest were gathering around a kitchen table telling jokes, being in his garden, making homemade wine, playing cards with his Grandkids and simply being around the people that he loved. There was always a cup of espresso ready at the house for whomever showed up, and along with it came a funny story and some laughs.

Giuseppe will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Caterina, sons Louis (Mary Nigro) Mirabelli, Vincenzo Mirabelli, and grandchildren, Joseph (Angela Izzo) Mirabelli, Alexander Mirabelli and Michael Mirabelli, siblings Maria Pullia, Rosa (Pietro) Pullia, Vince (Anna-Maria) Mirabelli, Frank (Maria) Mirabelli as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Thunder Bay, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, New Jersey, Australia, and in Italy.

He was predeceased by his parents Maria Grazia and Luigi Mirabelli, in-laws Angelina and Vincenzo Grillo, sister Francesca Talarico, brothers-in-law Antonio Talarico and Antonio Pullia.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Giuseppe Mirabelli will be held on Friday August 18th, 2017 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM celebrated by Father Luigi Filippini. Entombment to follow in St. Andrews Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Italian Cultural Centre.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 5:30PM to 7:30PM in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:30 PM.

A special thank you to the nursing staff in the emergency department of TBRHSC as well as the nursing staff of 3B for their kind and compassionate care of Giuseppe during his final days. A special thank you to his family physician Dr. Woods for her ongoing care and concern. Dr. Cullinen, Dr. Sebbraro, Dr. Mozzon, Dr. Trochimchuk, Dr. Zanette, and numerous other health care professionals that touched Giuseppe's life. The Mirabelli family appreciates all the home care support that was provided by the Northwest LHIN and Paramed. Their level of compassionate care was above and beyond anything we could have imagined. You each know how special you are to us. Not all superheroes wear capes.

In lieu of flowers, should family and friends so desire, donations in memory of Mr. Giuseppe Mirabelli to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation in support of Paediatrics would be greatly appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
