Gladys Barski, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023 in her home at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Gladys was born on August 26, 1925 in England. In 1947 she travelled to Canada as a war bride to marry Philip Barski. There were several trips back and forth to England between family members over the years.
Gladys worked part-time at two neighbourhood businesses, Jodoin’s Grocery and the Dutch Bakery, until their closures. Her main interests were her home and family, as well as the dogs, birds, tropical fish and plants that she cared for; her home was always full of life and a pleasure to visit for afternoon tea. She looked forward to her granddaughter’s sleepovers, grandson’s hockey games, holidays in Kenora and the summer months when her “green thumb” was showcased by the beautiful flowers surrounding her home.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Susan Thom, granddaughter Jade Michieli (Dean), grandson Wesley (Jessica), and great grandchildren Vegas, Rome and Kane.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Philip (2001), son-in-law Douglas Thom (2019), parents Amy and Alfred Best, and brothers Alfred and Sydney.
Her family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Feldstein and the team at Hogarth for their compassionate care of Gladys.
As per Gladys’ wishes, cremation has taken place and she is now together with her husband awaiting interment in a cremation bench at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Summer 2023.
