Gladys Kornichuk

Gladys Kornichuk passed away peacefully on June 11th, 2018. Born in 1937 to parents Bortolo and Ermenegilda Curtola, she was raised in Fort William as the second youngest of 7 siblings.

Our Mom’s 80 years of life was spent emphasizing what mattered to her most: family. Beautiful, vibrant and precocious, she met the love of her life, John Kornichuk, and was married in 1960. They spent the next 38 years together building a life and family. Their life together, and love for each other, was Mom’s greatest joy, and as kids we saw that daily.

Mom was funny and smart, sarcastic and stubborn. She was always the most creative and imaginative person in any room. She taught herself how to paint, woodwork, and sculpt. She did pottery and ceramics, gardened, crocheted, and could pretty much MacGyver anything together and master it in no time. It didn’t take much to put a smile on her face because she lived her life without pretense.

After our Dad’s passing, her happiness was tied to the simple contentment of being at home. She missed him dearly but still found joy in her little creative projects, being with her dogs, and knowing the family she raised learned what she taught them: to be kind, to be curious, and to be good.

Gladys was predeceased by her husband John. Brothers Archibald, Elio and Anthony and sisters Sylvia and Eva. She is survived by her three children, Louise, Sandra, and John. Sister Gilda (Leonard) Covino, sister in-laws Victoria Curtola, Elenore Curtola and brother in-law Bill Tymura as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Upon cremation a private service for family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, just spend some time with people you care about, and let them know you love them.
