Gladys Matkowski, age 85 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at TBHSC on March 12, 2017 with family by her side.
Gladys lived in Fort Frances as a child and move to Port Arthur in 1949 where she met and married Joseph Matkowski. She worked at Dawson Court in the dietary department until she retired.
She said she was blessed to have a strong and very caring family; “My children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are one of the most valuable things in my life.”
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Joanne Maki (Harold), Corinne Symons (David), Audrey Andrusyk (Dave), Sarah Jean Bruno (Emilio) and Shirley Gumienny (John); her grandchildren Michelle Filice (Frank), Crissy Hamlin (Danielle), Michael Andrusyk, Katrina Andrusyk , Brady Bruno, Lorreen Campbell, Tanya Cunningham (Don), Nancy Maki , John Jr. Gumienny (Gale), Kimberly Ripley (John); her great grandchildren Christina, Nicholas, Brianna, Jaylin, Ella, Sarah, Jade, Justin, Ashlyn, Keifer, Mircea, Malena, Kyle and Justin; her sister Madeline Martin (Ken); and numerous other relatives.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband Joseph; son Clifford; grandsons Jason and Steven, and son-in-law Murray.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 when family and friends will gather in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road, for the Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, March 14th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, where the Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation- Northern Cardiac Fund, or a charity of your choice.
