It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon Robert (Skip) Carr in St Joseph’s Hospice on Sunday, December 12, 2021. Skip was welcomed to life as the first son of William (Gordy) and Doreen Carr on November 28, 1948. Skip grew up in Current River as the eldest of nine siblings, and would always be quick to tell anyone he was “the boss”. He was an amazing big brother, and was always there for his brothers and sisters as they grew up. Those who knew Skip would agree his theme song could well have been “Against the Wind”; he never took the easy way, but had a good heart and was a true friend.
At a young age, he discovered his talent for sports, especially hockey and baseball. He spent many years following his passion, and went on to play on many championship teams including the Klomp Wakefield fastball team where he was home run king. Skip also enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. He was most proud to have curled on a team with his dad, Gordon senior. At a young age, skip trained for and taught figure skating.
“Skip the beer man” took much pride in the 40 plus years he delivered beer for the Brewers Retail. He relished connecting with, and making many new friends on his daily route throughout the city. He loved his job and turned down promotion to store management to be out there driving truck on delivery!
Much of Skip’s retirement was spent on the deck with his beloved dogs, Chili and Coney who will miss him dearly. He cherished quiet time with Kathie and the dogs.
Skip was predeceased by his parents Gordy and Doreen. Left to mourn his passing are: his loving wife of 28 years Kathie and her son Jason, his children Jennifer and Jeffrey, his brothers and sisters, Paul (Helen), Twyla (Al), Jacques (Della), Marilou (Ron), Len (Joanna) Chis (Cindy), Geri (Bill), Rob (Eyrn). Skip will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate nurses at both the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and St Joseph’s Hospice.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Skip’s life will be held in the spring of 2022.
