Gregory Johnstone (Strong Standing Bear) 46 years old and member of Fort William First Nation, began his journey to the spirit world on January 4, 2019. 

Greg spent most of his life living and working at Fort William First Nation (FWFN). Greg worked in various jobs in the community such as labourer, heavy equipment operator and security guard but his most cherished work was when he had the opportunity to be on the land of FWFN and Anemki Wajiw. It was here that he also hunted, fished and participated in cultural practices including the building of a wigwam on the mountain.  Greg will be most lovingly be remembered for his generosity, kindness, respect and love. He shared motivational words of love on a daily basis on Facebook but had a way of making you feel so loved in person.

Greg is survived by his children, Charity and Nathan Matte and Jacqueline Mitchell, Mother: Rochelle Johnson, Brothers Mike Johnstone (Bobbi) and Corey De Bungie, Sisters Michele Solomon, Rachelle Johnson, and Eugenie McGuire, and he also leaves behind Ashton with whom he had a father-son relationship. His dog Bruiser was also important to Greg. Greg has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts, Uncles and relatives. Greg was predeceased in death by his Father, John Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon at St. Anne’s Mission Church. Prayers will be offered on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church. Interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
