Gregory Michael Cambly April 9, 1943 – August 23, 2025

It is with deep love that we announce the passing of Gregory Michael Cambly, who left us on August 23, 2025 after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. Greg was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Lawrence and Yvonne Cambly, Greg lived a life defined by perseverance, determination, adventure, and hard work.

From a young age, Greg set his sights on the skies. Through the Air Cadets, he earned his pilot’s license, a highly competitive honor awarded to a select few across Canada. Out of thousands of cadets, he was chosen for special RCAF training. This remarkable achievement remained one of his proudest accomplishments in his early years and a story he loved to share throughout his life.

Greg’s path took him to CP Rail, and eventually to Teachers College where he met the love of his life, Gay. From that moment, she was not only his partner, but also his confidante, inspiration, and motivation to chase life’s dreams. Together they shared sixty wonderful years of marriage until Gay’s passing on November 12, 2024. Though his heart ached from her loss, Greg was forever grateful for the life they built side by side.

Teaching was Greg’s profession, but coaching was his calling. He dedicated countless hours to the youth of his community, coaching hockey, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and more. His steady encouragement and belief in young people left a lasting imprint on generations of athletes and students.

In retirement, Greg poured his creativity and craftsmanship into building a home on Lake Superior. More than a house, it became the heart of the family; a gathering place for birthdays, holidays, and celebrations of every kind. He also found much joy in golf, celebrating one of the sport’s rarest achievements: a hole-in-one.

Greg’s passions were often tied to people. He built a wide circle of friends, always ready with a story, a laugh, or a helping hand. He cherished his winters in Arizona, where he created a second home in Lake Havasu and welcomed family with open arms—memories that remain treasured by all who visited. Greg was also an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with his family, friends, and the members of the Shee Shee Club.

Above all, Greg was a family man. He and Gay were blessed with three children: Tracey, Gary (Cora), and Stephen (Keely), who became the center of their world. His greatest joy came from being “Grampa” to his seven grandchildren: Jordan (Kristina), Kato, Mackenzie, Jade, Cale, Carson, and Nash; and more recently, “Great Grampa” to Noa and Lucy. Greg never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren, share in their accomplishments, and tell anyone who would listen just how proud he was.

Greg leaves behind a legacy of love, artistry, and passion that will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to call him a friend. He also leaves behind with his friends and family countless handmade cards—treasured keepsakes filled with photos he had taken over the years. To receive a card from Greg was to be seen, remembered, and loved.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on September 2, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Strathcona Golf Course in the Clubhouse. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Feldstein at Hogarth Riverview Manor, as well as to Greg’s family and friends who supported him through his grief and his struggles with Parkinson’s.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Foundation (Rehabilitation) in Greg’s memory.
