It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Guenter Fischer on February 8, 2018. Guenter passed away peacefully at Pinewood Court.at the age of 88 with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

Born in Luebeck Germany, he immigrated to Canada in 1951, and his wife Helga joined him in 1952. Shortly after arriving in Thunder Bay he started work at a grain elevator, which later became Cargill Grain, and he was employed there for 43 years, until his well-deserved retirement.

Guenter served with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve (Militia) as a Warrant Officer and cook until he was Honourably Released, and the years there brought him great pride and fulfillment. Guenter loved travelling with his wife and children on many summer car trips as well as trips back to Germany. In the 1960's Dad was active in the Boy Scouts of Canada, as an Assistant Scout Master. Spending time with family and friends, having picnics and barbeques, and enjoying the company of the many dogs he had loved in his life, and which brought him much joy. Once a week Guenter enjoyed getting together with friends at the Army and Navy, to chat and reminisce.

Guenter will be sadly missed by his three children Ralph (Sai), Lorraine and Randy; grandson Nicholas, his furry friends Toby and Kaycee and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Helga, daughter Barbara, and parents Minna and John.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hummingbird and Blue Heron wings of Pinewood Court; the personal support workers, nurses, recreational staff, and the many volunteers for making his life there a home.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations to any local dog charity would be appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
