Posted

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Harold Bloesser announces his peaceful passing in the arms of his loving wife on Tuesday,September 15, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Harold Bloesser was born on February 01, 1941 in Frankfurt, Germany. As a young man he pursued his passion and was professionally trained in the culinary arts. Harold immigrated to Canada on April 30, 1957 with his family. Several years later he moved to Norway House, Manitoba where he met his first wife Eva (Apetagen). Their son Byron was born during their short time in Burlington Ontario in 1963 where Harold was a chef at an upscale restaurant.

Soon after, he and his family moved to Port Arthur, Ontario and Harold continued his education obtaining his teaching degree at Lakehead University. By becoming a teacher he combined two of the things he felt strong about – helping educate students and his talents as a chef. His career included teaching culinary science at Gron Morgan, Northwood and Hammarskjold High Schools contributing to the lives of many students.

Harold joined the Masonic Lodge No. 499 where he rose to the level of master of the Lodge. Before retirement he was also an active and respected member of the chefs association.

In 1980 Harold made a unique choice and took a one year sabbatical. With his family in tow they went to Molson Lake in northern Manitoba and built a log cabin in the bush. There they lived off the land for over a year. They then returned to Thunder Bay where Harold and Eva lived happily until her untimely passing in 1987.

In 1989 Harold was lucky enough to have found his second love and soulmate Eleanor (Defeo). They were blessed with 26 exciting and intriguing years together.

Harold, although a private person, was adventurous and a free spirited man and together with Eleanor they were fortunate in exploring the globe.

Harold enjoyed a wide variety of interests ranging from hunting, fishing, canoeing, mountain climbing in the Rockies and everything from white water rafting to downhill skiing and in later years he found enjoyment in “go slow curling”. Equally important he looked forward to his “Saturday man time escape” with his chums at the bar.

Harold was a loving Grandpa/Opa who supported all of his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He loved them all unconditionally.

He will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife Eleanor, mother Hildegarde Heist, brother Gerald (Marcia), son Byron (Jodi), stepson Darryl (Patti), stepdaughter Carol Anne Rutter, grandchildren Chantal, Myranda, Krista Bloesser, Reggie and Alyssa Defeo, Emily and Olivia Rutter, nephews Vincent and David Blosser and other relatives living in Canada and Germany.

Harold was predeceased by his first wife Eva (Apetagen), father Hans Heist, mother in law Ann Ross and father in law Elmer Ross.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Sept. 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre with the Reverend Harold Hunt. Visitation for family and friends will be 1 hour prior to the service.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Harold’s memory to the St. Joesph’s Hospice Unit or charity of one’s choice.
