Heinz Werner Busch, age 95 years, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Ridge on Sunday, September 23rd. Heinz was born in Hettstedt, Germany on February 14, 1923. He married the love of his life, Irmgard Ruebesamen, in 1944. They immigrated to Canada with their two children in 1960, arriving at Prince Arthur’s Landing, and resided in Thunder Bay for the remainder of his years.

Heinz was a “jack of all trades”. He worked as a scale technician, a parts manager/store keeper, and in many maintenance positions throughout his life, but his greatest passion was his music. Heinz was a professional entertainer, playing his accordion to the evening crowds for many years. He had a style that drew quite a following. He had a gift of being able to play anything and everything by ear, without ever knowing how to read music. To Heinz, it wasn’t just music, it was a feeling.

Heinz and Irmgard enjoyed many years after retirement traveling the world. They are the couple that did everything right; they worked hard when they could and then enjoyed incredible golden years together. They truly lived life to the fullest.

Heinz had a way of stepping into any room and making everyone feel warm and welcome. His kindness and witty sense of humour was truly magnetic. We will miss his colourful stories of the past, his recollections of both hardships and success, but most of all, we will always carry with us the lessons he taught about the importance of love, respect, and family. Heinz lived by his heart.

Heinz will be sadly missed by his “sweetheart” and loving wife Irmgard, his daughter Angelika (Skip) Bonnett and son Peter Busch. His grandchildren, their families, and his great-grandchildren will forever cherish the many years that they had with their Opa. Brothers and sisters in law, both local and overseas, as well as many nieces and nephews will never forget this wonderful man.

A small family gathering has been arranged, and interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. If friends so desire, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
