Mrs. Helen Delarue, age 83 years, passed peacefully on March 5, 2022 in Pioneer Ridge Nursing Home.

Helen was born on January 2, 1939 in Apostag, Hungary. She escaped the country in 1957 during the upheaval of the Hungarian Revolution, and forged a new life for herself in Canada. She built a lifelong career in food sales, and retired in 2002 as a Deli manager with Metro.

A vital and spirited woman, Helen enjoyed walking and being outdoors, dancing and listening to music, and visiting the local casino. Visiting with her kids and grandkids was important to her; she often planned trips to visit with her children if they could not come to her. Las Vegas was another favourite travel destination.

Helen will be dearly missed by her children Jim (Bianca), Thomas (Kimberly), Judy (Bob) and Helen (Manny); as well as her grandchildren Stefan (Brooke), Alexandra (Anders), Christopher, Michelle, Nicholas, Matthew, Lauren (Marc), Robert, Alexander, Katarina and Isabella; and by great grandchildren Jack, Liam, Adam, Ezra, Lilly and Meadow.

She was predeceased by her husbands Paul, Janos and Imre, her parents Juliána and Daniel Kopa, and her siblings Teri, Joli, Gizi, Munci, Eta, Jutka, Rozi, Dunci, and Peti.

Helen’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Pioneer Ridge, especially the 1st floor staff that supported and worked with Helen every day. We also thank the staff at Harbourview for their care and kindness in the funeral arrangements, and extend a special thanks to Monsignor Pat Stilla for delivering a thoughtful and heartfelt service.

A celebration of Helen’s life will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, presided by Rev. Msgr. P. M. Stilla, V.G. of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, with visitation to begin one hour prior. Cremation will follow the service. The service will be livestreamed and archived at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well. No advance registration to attend nor vaccination proof is required. Masks are still mandatory.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to any charity of choice.
