The family of Helen Drombolis sadly announce her passing on March 19, 2024, at the age of 95. Helen was a longtime resident on Selkirk Street in Thunder Bay but had resided at Pioneer Ridge LTC for the past 5 years.

Helen arrived in Canada from Wales at the young age of 23 after completing her nurses training. She made her home in Fort William on arrival to Canada and began working at McKellar Hospital, which resulted in a successful and rewarding 39-year career. Helen held positions as a Registered Surgical Nurse on 3A, a Head Nurse on 3 South, and then as Assistant Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1992.

Helen married Paul Drombolis in 1956 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage before his death on August 16, 2008. They travelled extensively around the world during their marriage and thoroughly enjoyed each others company. Helen was an avid competitive tennis player in her younger years and took home many trophies from the Fort William Tennis Club.

Helen was predeceased by her parents and 1 brother, all of Wales, and husband Paul Drombolis. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Caroline Williams (Wales), Alexis Bone, Bill Drombolis, Cathy Pilot, Frank McEwan, Charlie Drombolis, Tom Drombolis, Terry Drombolis, Don Drombolis, Marina Elder, Jim McCallum, and Gary McCallum.

A private family funeral at the graveside will be held at a later date. If so desired, donations in Helen’s memory can be made to TBRHSC Foundation or a charity of your choice.
