It is with a deep sense of loss and sorrow that the family announces the unexpected passing of Helen Virginia Gemzsi (nee Bobie) at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 with her husband and family by her side. Helen was born in Port Arthur on November 11, 1939, the 3rd eldest daughter of Paul and Jessie Bobie. Raised in the Current River area, Helen attended Current River Public School and Port Arthur Technical and Commercial High School. She moved to Winnipeg , Manitoba where she was employed with Manitoba Telephone working her way up to the position of Supervisor. Returning to Thunder Bay, she went to work as a Representative with Bell Canada , retiring in 2003 . Helen was the anchor of the Bobie family, keeping in touch with everyone by visits, telephone calls or cards. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have Helen as their friend knew only too well of her “must have hugs”. Helen was devoted to her husband Mike and her true calling was taking care of others.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by husband Mike, step-daughter Mary McGowan (Robert), sisters Josie Gray (Cameron), Oakville, Ontario and Diane Bobie (Richard), brother Alex Bobie (Sharon) both of Thunder Bay, step-grandson Justin McGowan and his children Shyre and Alize, step-granddaugher Nisa McGowan, nephews Terry Myskew, Shane King and Paul Bobie, nieces, Debbie Zienkiewicz, Wendy Myskew (Rene) and Tara Bobie , aunt Minne Bobie, god-son Jeano Poos and his wife Kathy as well as numerous cousins and other relatives also survive.

Predeceased by parents Paul and Jessie Bobie, sister Frances Myskew and by brothers-in-law Tony Myskew and Vaugh King. Helen’s “furry kid” Cigany also predeceased her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stallwood and Dr. MacDougall, the paramedics as well as the nurses and staff of 3C Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre.

In accordance with Helen’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery with her father and mother at a later date.

In keeping with Helen’s love for people, hug someone you care about today and remember Helen. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully requests donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Home.
