Mrs. Helvi Julia Kamarainen "Mummu", passed away peacefully in Bethammi Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 25, 2010.

Mummu was born on February 13, 1924 in Sonkajarvi, Finland. She immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her husband and 2 young daughters. The family farmed in Mokomon for several years before moving to Port Arthur where they were blessed with the birth of a son. Due to her strong faith, Helvi was devoted and actively involved in the Finnish Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Tuula Davies (George) of Brampton and Marja DeGiacomo (Peter); grandchildren Kris DeGiacomo (Sophy) of Ottawa, Kyle DeGiacomo of Ottawa and Angela Girvin (Cameron); great grandchildren Chloe and Caleb DeGiacomo of Ottawa and Nathan Girvin. A brother Heikki Eskelinen (Anne) and sister Tyyne Korpela of Victoria also survive, as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and Finland.

Helvi was predeceased by her loving husband Matti in 1975, her son Arto in 1986, brother Olavi and sister Taimi in Finland.

Mummu dedicated her life and her energy to her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will always be remembered in our hearts. A special thank you to Dr. Bone and the compassionate care givers at Bethammi Nursing Home.
