Mr. Hendrik "Hank" Buys, age 77 years, passed away peacefully in hospital surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 11, 2010.

Hank was born in Holland on July 25, 1932. He was the second oldest of ten children born to Jan and Pietje Buys. In March of 1960, he married Nellie and together they arrived in Canada in April of the same year. Hank was an avid baker and chef which reflected in his professional life having been the owner of Current River Bakery for a number of years and the Park Cafe. He then worked at Nucci's until retirement. "Handy Man Hank" had many interests such as fishing, camping, gardening, plants, fixing almost anything and his greatest pleasure was baking goodies "poffertjes" for the kids. His home and family were his main interests.

Survived by his wife Nellie of almost 50 years; daughter Maryann; grandchildren Brandin (Kimberley), Summer (Mackenzie) and Ocean; two sisters Ada (Max) and Gerrie (Herman); a brother Willem and sister-in-law Joke; brother-in-law Joop (Henny) and brother-in-law Anton (Grete) of Holland. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews both here and in Holland.

Predeceased by his parents, a sister and five brothers.

Funeral services for the late Mr. Hendrik Buys will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma with Pastor Neil Otke officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Hendrik to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
