Herbert Goodman
Loss of a Lake Nipigon Legend

It is with greatest sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Herbert Kenneth Goodman, on Monday, May 24, 2021.

Herbert was born November 21, 1935 in Thunder Bay, raised in MacDiarmid, and later moved to Beardmore after marrying Donna where they raised their five children. No matter what the weather, being on the water was second nature to Herb. He spent most of his life commercial fishing with his father, his brothers, and then with his sons, and grandsons.

A quiet, gentle man who loved to tease and was so loved by his family. If you were not visiting Herb in his garage, you could find him down at the harbour on his boat, the CindyGayle. He took great pride and care readying her for sail. The family will cherish the many wonderful memories of fishing trips on Lake Nipigon and the annual Herbie Derby that will continue on in his memory.

He so enjoyed his family visits, especially his weekly card games with his sister Shirley and loved her delicious goodies.

Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years Donna; his children Herb (Theresa), Cindy (Randy), Gayle (Alex), Darren (Brenda); daughter-in-law Gisele; by his 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers Frank (Dorothy), Glen (Ginette) and sister Shirley; brothers-in-law Bob Dickison (Kathryn) and Louis Nolan. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Herb and Jeanette; son Darcy; brother Jack; sisters Lorraine, Nora, Beatty, Dorothy, Bernice; and daughter-in-law Sue.

Heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful nurses and doctors at the Geraldton District Hospital for the compassion, kindness and excellent care that they gave to Herb. Much appreciation to Deb for her many visits. Herb enjoyed your tea times together. And to Community Baptist Church for their fellowship and support.

Cremation has taken place. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no service and Herb will be laid to rest at a later date.

If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Fair winds and following seas.
