On September 7, 2015 Mr. Herman Prenger entered his eternal rest after four and a half years suffering from painful cancer. He bore his illness with quiet dignity, as was his nature.

Herman was born on October 30, 1932 in Gramsbergen, the Netherlands, son of Herman and Jennigje Prenger who came to Canada in 1948 with their three sons and three daughters. After living in Manitoba for two years, they moved East to Paipoonge where they purchased a dairy farm. In 1955 Herman married Alice Heerema and they were blessed with two sons and five daughters. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Christian Reformed Church and served his church in different functions.

As a young adult, Herman held different jobs, Canada Car, milkman for his parents Holland Dairy, truck driver for Sillman Co. and Red River Service, eventually choosing electronics. He graduated from Confederation College TV Electronics and George Brown College for Coloured TV Service. He operated Red River Radio and TV for some time before starting his own business, Herman's TV & Radio Service which he operated for twenty five years. He also owned and operated Allied Computers for 10 years. His hobby as an Amateur Radio Operator (VE3LX) reached many far away places on his short wave radio. He was a past member of the Thunder Bay Amateur Radio Club.

Herman was a founding board member of Lakehead Christian Homes (Good Shepherd Village) and served many terms on the board until his health failed him. He like photography, gardening, landscaping and travelling. He and Alice annually visited children and grandchildren in British Columbia and Southern Ontario. They also enjoyed many trips abroad. For Herman his country of birth, The Netherlands was his favourite place to visit. Herman was a man of few words, but stood for every word he said. Herman took loving care of everything that was entrusted to him.

Survived by his wife Alice, children Norman (Gwen), Lindy (Fred) Wagenaar, Jeannette Prenger, Deborah (Jay) Godsall, Bonita (Dan) Eckensweiler, Lorraine (Andrew) Whitehead and Allan (Lineen).

Grandchildren Mandy, Lyndon, Nathan, Kasia, Elisabeth, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Micheal, Elise, Tim, James, Austin, Kurtis, Lee, Erika, Keeley, Leo, Harry, Liam, Abby, Christian and Olivia, and eight great grandchildren.

Herman's sisters Rika (Ron) Perrier, Marg (Jim) Hurdon and Jenny (Carl) Taylor as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Predeceased by his parents and brothers Henry (Tina) and Martin.

A Memorial Service for the late Mr. Herman Prenger will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Hope Christian Reformed Church, 1315 Crawford Avenue with Pastor Al Postma officiating. A private interment will take place in Stanley Hill Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Should friends so desire, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
