Mr.Walter Hoganpassed away peacefully at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, March 5, 2011 with his family by his side. 

He was a devoted; loving husband of 59 years to Phylis, father to Leslee, Gail (Jack) Malcolm and Greg (Mary Jane) and grandfather to Melanie (Krys), Timothy, Rebecca (Michel), Marcie (Andy), Tracie, Dallas (Samantha) and Joshua.  He was great grandfather to nine great grandchildren. 

He is survived by his brother Roy (Joan) Hogan, sister-in-law Connie (Neil) Hiebert, brother-in-law Norman (Jean) Robinson and nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Signa (Ted) Brackett, Ella (Ernie) Saunders and Margaret (Ed) Shapland, brother Lloyd Hogan, brothers-in-law Tom Robinson and George Cumming and his in-laws Gwen and Phil Robinson. 

He was born in Dyment, Ont., on Jan. 4, 1926 to Sigurd and Ragna Hogan.  He served in the Canadian Army as re-enforcement for the Royal WPP Rifles from 1944-46, serving overseas. 

He worked at the Dryden Paper Mill for 46 years and was on the executive for the Paper Makers Local 1323 Union for many years.  He volunteered with the Ambulance Services in Dryden for 12 years. 

He was an active member at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dryden, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, volunteered in numerous areas and served on council in a variety of positions. 

Walter and Phylis moved to Thunder Bay 14 years ago to be closer to their family.  He was a devoted Christian and his faith impacted every area of his life. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Calvary Lutheran Church, with Pastor Brian Lee officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice.

 

A tree will be planted in memory of Walter Hogan in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
