It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ida Fiorido announces her sudden passing on Friday April 7, 2017. Ida was born on December 18, 1928 in Saleto Pordenone, Italy. After the loss of her mother at an early age, she and her brothers Lino and Giovanni were cared for by a large extended family led by her Nonna. In 1954, she immigrated to Fort William with her two daughters to reunite with her husband Antonio, where their family grew to include three more daughters.

Ida was very passionate about her home and garden, taking care to ensure that everything was always perfect. She was an amazing cook and a talented seamstress. Ida cherished the relationships she had with her family, but most especially with her grandchildren and great granddaughter, always the first to offer heartfelt support and advice. The joy they brought her was immeasurable, and the time she spent with them always brought a smile to her face. They will always remember her selfless nature; her children and grandchildren’s welfare would always take precedence over her own.

Following the death of her husband, her heart was broken, and she was left with a void in her life. However, she continued to be strong-willed and courageous through the love and support of her family and friends and from her daily prayers to her soul mate Antonio.

Ida is survived by her five daughters Lucy (Henry) Saarinen, Adriana (Gus) Foresto, Judy (Laurie) Pudas, Sandra (Jeff) Freund, and Lori (Lenny) Gutmann. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Scott (Kayla) and Cory Saarinen, Alex, Drew and Laura Pudas (Dylan), Erika (Scott) Herman, Luke  Freund (Monique), Christina Foresto (Kathryn) , Karlee Gutmann (Erik) and Lindsey Gutmann (Dillon), as well as her beloved great grand-daughter Mira Saarinen.

Ida is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in both Canada and Italy. After almost 3 years apart, Ida has now joined her loving husband, Antonio. She was also predeceased by her parents Fioravaute and Lucia, her brothers Lino and Giovanni, and her daughter Francesca in infancy.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ida Fiorido will be held on Wednesday April 12, 2017 with a mass at 11:00a.m. at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church one hour prior to mass. As expressions of sympathy, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – Cardiac Unit.
