Mrs. Ida Scott (nee Stokes) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 10, 2017. Born in Fort William, Ontario on July 8, 1918, Ida lived her life devoted to taking care of others.

Ida had a short career at Canada Car during WWII and belonged to many charitable organizations including The JayCees, the Rotary Club and Diabetes Association. She was also a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Ida also very much enjoyed socializing over a good game of canasta.

In 1949, Ida met her soulmate and love of her life, Daniel Scott. Shortly after, the two married and together they raised four children. They also ran a successful screen printing business, Scott and Sons, for many years. Ida dedicated her life to her family, taking care of Dan’s elderly parents, and then their youngest son Larry, after he fell ill. Sadly, Larry’s illness found him in long term care for many years. Ida never drove, but would happily make her way across town daily, no matter the weather, for ten years to visit with him. Her children were everything to her, always putting their needs ahead of her own.

Ida was very proud of her home and took great care to ensure it was beautiful and everything just so. She was an excellent baker and made gorgeous creations with her crocheting and knitting. Ida, known by most as Nana, very much valued family time, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nana would always ensure to have delicious baked goods on hand to fill their bellies. They brought her so much joy and time spent with them was sure to bring a smile to her face. Ida’s loved ones will never forget her selfless nature; the happiness and comfort of her family always coming before hers. A caring wife, devoted mother, and adoring Nana.

Ida is survived by son Thomas Scott and daughter Dianne Sheparski, grandchildren, Kerri Wright (Shawn), Tanya (Chris) Horychuk, Sarah (Dan) Garofalo, Devin Sheparski, Jesse Scott, Aaron Scott and Arianne (Jeff) Fehr as well as her great grandchildren Parker, Maycee, Brayden, Brielle, Melia and Hana whom she held near and dear to her heart. Ida also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ida is now reunited in heaven with her loving husband Daniel, and sons Dan Jr. and Larry. She is also predeceased by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Ida’s family would like to extend their many thanks to the wonderful staff on Sandpiper at Pinewood Court Retirement Home.

Visitation will be held at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for family and friends to pay their respects. Cremation will follow and a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ida’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
