Romeo Immaculata new

It is with great sadness that the family of Immacolata Romeo, announce her passing on December 15, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospice.

After a short and courageous battle with cancer, she left us peacefully, with loving family by her side. Immacolata was born on September 9th, 1926 in Siderno Marina, RC, Italy.

In 1942, she married the love of her life Giuseppe Romeo.  In Italy is where they began their life together but after many years, they decided to start a new life in Canada.  Giuseppe left his family behind to secure work.

In 1965, Immacolata along with her children, left her birthplace to be reunited with her husband in Canada to begin their new journey together. Immacolata’s family was her life.  She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends.  She took great pride in her role as a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend to all that she knew both in Canada and Italy.

She made everyone feel welcome in her home and made sure no one left with an empty stomach. Immacolata always had a smile on her face.  She gave a lot and asked for little in return. Never one to shy away from hard work, Immacolata spent many hours in her garden, and in her kitchen cooking and baking for her family.

Her ‘Nonna Cookies’ were a favourite among her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of St. Dominic’s Parish and even in her most difficult times had an unwavering faith in God. Immacolata is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Rosa (Cosimo) Etreni, son Domenico (Maria) Romeo, daughter Angela (Domenico) DeLuca, daughter Marisa (Robert) Racco,  and her beautiful grand children Alfredo (Kasey), Pino (Stefania), Frank (Luisa), Giuseppe, Maggie (Frank), Sam (Susie), Teresa, Caterina, Pino, Maria (Patrick), Laura (Mark), Cosimo (Robyn), Jonathan, Daniel and wonderful great grand children, Kayla, Brooklyn, Matthew, Jessica, Andrew, Erica, Alexia, Victoria, Sophia, Olivia, Luca, Owen, brother Giuseppe (Anna) Costa, sister in laws Pina Romeo and Caterina Romeo, and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy.

She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe, two infant sons Antonio and Francesco, her mother, Maria, her father, Cosimo, sisters Angela and Rosa, and numerous brothers and sisters in laws in Canada and Italy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St. Dominic's Church celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi  c.s.  Interment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Sunday December 18, 2016 in St. Dominic's Church starting at 3:00pm with prayers offered at  4:00pm.  If friends desire, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society can be made in Immacolata’s name.

2 Corinthians 5 (ESV)

“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

Immacolata Romeo will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 201
