Ingo Ernsting

The family of the late Ingo Ernsting are sad to announce his passing on February 13, 2022.

Ingo was born November 23, 1933 in Hamburg, Germany to Louise and Edgar Ernsting. He grew up with 2 sisters and a brother and was predeceased by his son Eric Ernsting.

Ingo immigrated to Canada in 1956 and began his life here with his wife Helga where they raised their three children. Ingo was always a hard-working man and was a carpenter by trade. Throughout his life he worked as a logger and then became self-employed carrying out various contracts in the lumber industry. After his retirement he continued to work on projects at his home and cottage at Hawkeye Lake.

Ingo loved the outdoors and after his retirement he spent most winters at his home in Florida. Ingo and Helga enjoyed their retirement years with family and friends and in the summer you could always find Ingo out at Hawkeye lake, building and renovating or just sitting and chatting with the many people that dropped by to visit.

Ingo was a kind, vivacious man with a friendly smile and heart of gold. He will be missed. It is hard to let him go but comforting to know that he had a full and content life. Towards the end he was still living in his home with his wife, able to move around, enjoying sweets and a great cup of coffee and he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. He will be forever in our hearts.

Ingo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helga, daughter Suzanne Christie (George Kelos), son Ryan, grandson’s Matthew Christie and Andrew Ernsting and Granddaughter’s Taryn Christie, Jayda Ernsting and Andra Lisa Ernsting as well as several nieces and nephews in Germany.

“Thank you for being my husband for 60 years. You were always there for me and I couldn’t have done it all without you. Good-bye my love.” Your wife Helga

As per Ingo’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice may be made.
