It is with deep sadness that the family of Irene LeGros, age 94, a resident of Thunder Bay, announces her peaceful passing at Roseview Manor on January, 9th, 2016, with her family by her side.

Irene was born in Fort William in 1921 to Julia and Paul Trudeau. Irene married the love of her life Joseph LeGros and they raised six children. After Joe’s passing in 1968, Irene continued to be the glue that held the family together and put everyone’s needs ahead of her own. Prior to retirement in 1986, Irene worked at Dawson Court as a caring and compassionate nurse with the Special Care residents.

She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, bowling and later, in retirement, golfing and travelling with her best friend Anne. However the greatest joy of her life was her family. Many Sundays the whole family gathered at Nana's to enjoy some wonderful home cooked meals and a rousing game of canasta.

Irene was a very active, hardworking person.  She could be seen often walking downtown on her way to do errands, or going home with parcels in hand. At 65 she completed a marathon.

She was a member of the CWL (Catholic Women’s League) for over 60 years and belonged to St. Margaret’s church where she faithfully attended daily mass. Irene always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. In her later years, many returned her kindness.

A special thanks to Donna who called Irene "her friend" and often brightened her days with a call or visit and went out of her way to help when needed.

Irene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Darcy (Margie), Darlene (Bob) Haubrich, Carol (Joe, deceased) Skukowski, Theresa (Marty) Brindley, Gerry (Lynne), and Robert (Rhonda). Her grandchildren: Kelly (Rebecca), Jennifer (Jodi), Jeff, Deanne, Jason (Patti), Ryan (Rochelle), Steve (Eva), Rodd (Katrena), Andy (Kayla), Dan (Samantha), Michelle (Matt), and Morgan. As well as her great-grandchildren: Olivia, Damien, Avery, Maxine, Gavin, Taylor, Cole, Brooke, Connor, Emma, Claire, Hudson and Jacob. Her brother, Dennis Trudeau (Marianne) of Grovetown, Georgia, USA , and her sister-in-law Wassy (Eddie-deceased) Trudeau, of Atikokan, ON, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives

The family would like to express their gratitude and deep appreciation to the wonderful staff and caregivers at the Transition Care Unit and Roseview Manor.

A funeral mass for the late Irene LeGros will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. Margaret’s R.C. Church, 88 Clayte St. Visitation for friends will begin one hour prior to service time. Internment will take place in St. Andrew’s R.C. Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations in Irene’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
