It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Salo on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

Irene was born on February 25, 1954. She was fluent in Finnish and had that Finnish Sisu!

Irene had a life long career at Confederation College with 40 years of service. She was very proud of her many service pins and her achievements at the College. Everyone knew Irene as she worked in many different areas of the College. If you needed any history of the College Irene was the one to go to! She was a dedicated, conscientious and reliable employee.

Irene retired in 2017 and enjoyed her retirement life! She loved to garden and was very proud of her vegetable and flower garden, especially her grapevines and smokebush! She gave may tips on gardening on the Thunder Bay Gardening page on Facebook! They will miss seeing her posts. Her indoor plants were always beautiful with blooms.

Irene was a generous person, always sharing her baking and garden produce with friends and neighbours. She made one very welcome to her home and was always so cheerful and happy to see you.
Irene was a very private person. She made many trips to Duluth and larger trips to Italy.
We will miss our Irene!

Irene is survived by her siblings Carl Salo, Vilho (Leona) Salo, Ilona Hagglund, Ilmi Hoyem and Esko Vaisanen; as well as a niece and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents John Salo and Raili Vaisanen and brother Veiko Salo.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 8:00pm in EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Visitation will begin Monday evening at 6:00pm.

If friends desire, memorial donations in memory of Irene to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
