It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Tokar, age 86, on September 12, 2016. Born in Slovakia, Irene and her mother immigrated to Canada in 1949 to join family.
Throughout her life, family was important to Irene. She strived diligently to provide a good life for them. Irene (Baba) was an integral part of raising her grandchildren – Ryan, Andrew and Matthew. Her happiest times were when family was together eating, playing games and exchanging stories.
Irene’s generosity and kind heartedness was felt by all. Many friends and neighbours left her home with garden produce, baking or her famous perogies. Prayer and church played an important role in Irene’s life.
She attended St. Peter’s Church and was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children Anne (Bruce) Holm; Irene (Kirk) Shaughnessy; grandchildren Ryan(Carly) Holm; Andrew (Jenna) Holm; Matthew Tilbury; great grandchildren Carter and Hudson Holm.
She was predeceased by husband George and parents Pauline and Andrew Tusay. We would like to express thanks to all who were so thoughtful by their many acts of kindness.
It is always difficult to lose someone so close, yet knowing friends cared so deeply provided much comfort. Baba was our special great grandmother, grandmother and mother. She will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. Joseph Arockiam.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Prayers will be offered Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 7:00pm in the Blake Funeral Chapel.

Irene Tokar will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 11, 2017.
