Ivar Swanson passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer.

Ivar will be remembered for his big heart, his great story telling, his eager willingness to help his fellow man and his selfless love for his family.

He was a good man, both loving and much loved, generous and giving, a one of a kind man, who will never be forgotten.

Ivar spent his entire working life at Great Lakes Paper, retiring in 1987. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years and kept busy and fulfilled with his favourite motto “every day is a bonus.”

Ivar is survived by his beloved companion Mary Moore. He was the proud and devoted dad to his four daughters Donna DeGiacomo, Judy (Jim) St. James, Debby (Joe) Kulchyski and Beverly Swanson. He thoroughly enjoyed being Papa to his grandchildren Tyler, Ryan, Jessica, Dana-Lee and Jillia.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Rita (nee Franchi) in 1984. Ivar comes from a family of 11 children and will be missed by his surviving brother Roy (Laurene), sister Doris and many nieces and nephews.

As per his wishes, Ivar will be cremated and there will be a private service for the immediate family.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Northern Cancer Research Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
